Cycas taitungensis, or the Prince sago, is a sister species to Cycas revoluta from the mountains on the island of Taiwan. It is every bit as cold hardy as C. revoluta, but it grows much faster and gets bigger. It is an excellent cycad for the Austin area. The smaller plant growing out of the rock in this planting of Prince sagos is 5 years old from seed. Almost all of the other plants in this photo are gymnosperms.
