The sleek and brash Great-tailed Grackle is one of the most commonly seen birds in the ZBG. The males are rather large, with yellow eyes and black iridescent plumage. The females are smaller and brown with dark eyes. Often seen in small groups as they forage or court, the birds feed on a variety of things, including insects and any other small animals, grains, and eggs or newly hatched young of other birds. Displaying males, like the one shown below, are especially noisy, producing a number of raucous sounds that can resemble tearing paper or a rusty gate hinge.
